Today, nearly 1 in 3 children, teens, and young adults are overweight or obese, a number that continues to grow rapidly. While many initiatives focus on obesity prevention, what is to become of today's generation of overweight adolescents?
A range of studies predict this generation of children will lead a shorter life than their parents, a staggering conclusion considering medical advances. Other research has shown that overweight young adults are less likely to enter college, less likely to graduate from college, less likely to get married, and more likely to occupy a lower socioeconomic group

While time and money focus on prevention efforts educating kids about the importance of healthy eating and an active lifestyle, ask yourself: are these kids changing their habits? A recent Associated Press report evaluated 57 obesity prevention initiatives; 54 of the 57 were found to have no impact on the eating patterns of participants, while the other 3 had no impact whatsoever on the body mass index (BMI) of the children in the program.
