Loveable Foods that Love You Back

Wellspring Fit Clubs train participants to enjoy a very low-fat diet, with a target of less than 20 grams of fat per day. Unlike fad diets that focus on carb-counting or complex balancing of many different criteria, a low-fat diet is simple, sustainable, and based on scientific evidence. Studies have also shown that participants who maintain a low-fat diet do not crave food and report very low levels of hunger, both important criteria for long-term success.

The testament of success is based on the ability to follow a program in a "real world" setting. This is why the Wellspring program includes nutrition education and culinary training, along with grocery shopping and restaurant visits. The ultimate goal is for participants to recognize healthy foods and learn how to incorporate them into everyday life.

Move to Lose

Television, video games, and car rides all contribute to a sedentary lifestyle, one which must be replaced by an active lifestyle for long-term weight control. Every Wellspring participant strives to reach a minimum of 10,000 steps per day.

Walking is only the beginning of the fitness program. We expose children and teens to many types of indoor and outdoor recreation activities: aerobics, cycling, jogging, basketball, swimming, softball, and rock climbing, to name a few-because when students succeed at these activities, this can inspire improved physical fitness for years after they complete their Wellspring program.

Living the Healthy Lifestyle

Although Wellspring has unparalleled success in helping achieve weight loss, our true focus is on changing behavior. With the help of Behavioral Coaches, our masters- or doctoral-level therapists, participants work to overcome any emotional or other issues that may inhibit permanent changes.

Self-monitoring food intake and activity level, journaling about progress, and goal-setting are all vital skills participants are trained on in the Wellspring program. These skills help participants assess their progress and form the basis for the Wellspring clinical program.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is central to the Wellspring program. Groups are led by Wellspring Behavioral Coaches and reinforce self-monitoring skills, along with improving frustration tolerance, stress management, and a range of coping mechanisms.

Lasting Success

Before joining Wellspring, many children and teens are in a downward spiral of continued weight gain, with physical and emotional ailments contributing to and leading to more weight gain. Wellspring breaks this cycle and puts participants on a new path to a healthy lifestyle.

Families are involved throughout the Wellspring program, as parents and siblings are a vital component of long-term success. Behavioral Coaches provide regular status updates, while weekend family sessions build awareness of program goals.

The Wellspring Fit Clubs after-care program ensures participants continue to self-monitor and stay in contact with their Behavioral Coach months after completing the program.
